You search your own business name on Google, and the profile you carefully set up is nowhere. No panel with your hours and photos, no pin on the map. It feels like Google deleted you.
Most of the time, it did not. A profile that will not show up is almost always blocked by one of a small set of specific, fixable problems — not a mysterious penalty. The trick is to diagnose in the right order. Here are the five usual causes and what to do about each.
First, look before you guess
Before changing anything, sign in to your Business Profile at business.google.com using the Google account that owns the listing — the owner, not a manager, since some warnings only reach the owner's inbox. Read the top of the dashboard for a status banner: Suspended, Verify now, Pending, or a note that your profile is not visible to customers. Then search the way a customer would — your business name plus your city, on Search and Maps, in an incognito window.
Google's own tips for showing up on Google start in the same place: the profile has to be verified and visible before anything else matters.
Cause 1: Your profile is suspended
This is the most painful one, because a suspended profile is invisible to customers until it is reinstated. Google suspends profiles that break its guidelines for representing your business — a name padded with keywords, a virtual-office or P.O. box address, details that do not match reality, or an ineligible business type. You will usually see a "Suspended" banner, and often an email to the owner account.
To fix it: correct whatever contradicts the real world first — the name exactly as on your signage, a real staffed address, honest hours — then file the reinstatement request through Google's fix a suspended profile flow. Be specific about what you changed, and include evidence if asked, such as a storefront photo. After you submit, resist the urge to keep editing; repeated changes during review only slow things down, and reinstatement can take days.
Cause 2: Verification never finished
Google is blunt about this: only verified businesses can show their information on Maps and Search. If verification is still pending or it failed, customers will not see you. In Business Profile Manager, look for a Verify now button or a "Pending verification" status. Google assigns the method — postcard, phone, text, email, or video — and it can take several days to verify your Business Profile. A mailed postcard is the slowest, and it can go missing.
To fix it: complete the method Google offers. If a postcard never arrives or a video verification keeps failing, request another method or re-submit. For video, a clear continuous clip of your signage, interior, and proof you run the place is what Google needs. Until that green check lands, treat the profile as offline.
